President-elect Donald Trump’s bid to overturn his conviction within the legal hush cash case was denied on Friday, and he’s scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 10. Trump won’t face jail time, with penalties anticipated to be monetary in nature.
The case facilities on funds made to grownup movie actress Stormy Daniels to silence allegations of extramarital affairs forward of the 2016 election. Prosecutors argued these funds violated marketing campaign finance legal guidelines, and a jury convicted him. Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or affairs, claiming the funds have been private issues unrelated to his marketing campaign.
On Friday, New York Choose Juan Merchan rejected Trump’s request to vacate the conviction, stating that the Supreme Courtroom’s current presidential immunity ruling didn’t apply. He additionally didn’t need to overturn the findings of the jury.

“It seems proper at this juncture to make known the Court’s inclination to not impose any sentence of incarceration, a sentence authorized by the conviction but one the People concede they no longer view as a practicable recommendation,” Merchan wrote.
